Bathroom Trends for 2024

1. Inspiration from Nature and Biophilic Design

A bathtub made of natural material.

The use of natural materials, such as wood, irregular shapes, and naturally-occurring materials can make for a relaxing space to unwind at the end of a long day. The Zen spa, liberal use of plants, and avoidance of manufactured-looking construction materials have always been popular, but it’s even more trendy as we head into 2024. This means bold and sturdy woods, elegant stone, and skipping anything that looks too ‘prefab’ will help bring the ‘nature aesthetic to your bathroom.

There is also biophilic design, a similar concept that helps connect the inside of your home to the natural environment. This is done through the use of direct nature itself, such as plants or stones, indirect nature, or place conditions. Incorporating nature has become increasingly more popular over the years, and while biophilic design nature is more of an aesthetic than a complete theme, the goal is the same: to help promote relaxation and escapism. A side effect to incorporating this into your bathroom is that it’s been proven that people are more efficient and perform in calmer and more focused ways when they are surrounded by nature. Nature pairs well with a neutral color palette, so if you want a more subtle, natural environment over a rich, overwhelming, one, then try using plants and small, natural decor.

2. Wooden Countertops and Vanity

The use of wood can go with a variety of themes, from nature-inspired to lux. Sleek, light wooden counters that hide wi-fi and connectivity elements, or country-themed, antique cupboards as a centerpiece all fit the bill here. We are seeing more and more bathrooms use stone which is then paired with attractive wood cabinetry and countertops in bathrooms this year complemented by warm lighting and the use of rich colors and hues, such as paint or decor.

3.Use a Neutral or Monochromatic Color Palette

Neutral color palettes are a great option for your bathroom, as they will be on trend for years to come. Neutral colors act as a fantastic base to your space, but they don’t have to be boring! If used correctly, crisp whites, soft creams, cloudy grays, and every shade of beige can create a soothing environment, perfect for soaking in the tub after a stressful day. To keep your bathroom feeling modern, we recommend a monochromatic look. Utilizing one color or material throughout the entire room can add an interesting and dynamic design element into your home. Similar to nature, interiors with one color can help calm your mind. We recommend homeowners who are looking to create a spa-like interior think about going monochromatic in their bathroom. A great way to keep monochromatic interesting is to incorporate a variety of textures and patterns into the space.

4.Exposed Plumbing

Exposed shower plumbing is an emerging trend that gives your bathroom a unique, rustic vibe. Most exposed pipe shower systems include: a shower knob, showerhead, and a pipe to the showerhead that is visible. They come in all different finishes, while some of our favorites include chrome, copper, and pewter. We love pairing industrial fixtures with a modern white marble to help soften the fixtures, while also creating a dynamic space.

5.Vanities and Windows

Our design experts are seeing vanities placed in front of windows more and more every day, and we predict this trend will be even more popular in 2020. Not only does it start your day off with the perfect, picturesque view, but it also provides you excellent lighting! This is a great option for those who may be interested in biophilic design but cannot incorporate as much greenery into their bathroom as they would like. For those interested in this trend, we recommend suspending mirrors from the ceiling or on the side wall of the sink. It will keep your vanity on trend but also functional!
