6 Fall Inspired Kitchen Ideas

By Cabinets Direct USA  on  September 21, 2015

If the sun is setting earlier and the air feels crisp, these are indicators that the fall season is quickly approaching. This means that your kitchen needs some fall-inspired updates. If a remodel or even a paint job are not in the budget, or you simply do not have the time, there are other ways to decorate for the cooler season. Here are a six easy ways to touch up your kitchen to get you into the autumn spirit.

1. Fall Colors

This is an easy place to start, with the typical colors associated with fall: different shades of orange, yellow and brown. Add a splash of any of these colors just about anywhere and you’ll feel as if you’re amongst the falling leaves in your own backyard, without the mess. Consider switching up any of the following:

  • Window treatments including shutters, blinds, shades and curtains
  • Dish towels
  • Art work
  • Placement mats
  • Vases and other decorations

2. Cozy Rug

As the weather gets cooler, we naturally layer up our clothing to stay warmer. Think of adding a rug as producing the same effect in your kitchen. This is especially perfect if you have tile floors in your kitchen that tend to make your feet cold as you walk in barefoot, half asleep for your morning coffee. Your toes will love you for having a warm rug to snuggle up in instead. Don’t forget to incorporate those fun fall colors!

 3. Burlap Runner

Let’s take the layering notion mentioned in #2 and run with it, with a burlap table runner. Table runners complement your table setting by adding color, texture and a unifying element to the landscape. Make it burlap to keep this theme of coziness going throughout the kitchen.

4. Fall Wreath

Whether you found it on sale at a local shop or craft your own DIY fall wreath, a wreath is a creative way to accentuate the theme of your kitchen. Fall wreaths look great when made up of a combination of any of the following:

  • Real or fake leaves
  • Twigs and branches
  • Acorns
  • Pumpkins
  • Burlap

If your wreath is made of material that may die and/or fall off, be sure not to hang it in a place that the fallen material will contaminate food or get in the way otherwise. Consider hanging it above a doorway, in front of a window or on a black wall.

5. Pumpkins

We’re in the season so, why not? Pick up a fresh pumpkin and let it hangout on the countertops or windowsill. It can even make a great, simple centerpiece for the kitchen table. Once the end of October and Halloween roll around, have some fun with transforming that pumpkin into a spooky jack-o-lantern!

6. Food as Decoration

Let your delicious fall food not only fill your stomach but add to the décor of your kitchen. A pretty basket of fresh-baked pumpkin spice muffins can be exactly what you need to complete the autumn look and feel of your kitchen. Switch out the bowl of fruit that you brought out during the summer with a bowl of vegetables for a change.

7. Candles

When your food isn’t filling the kitchen with its aroma, light a fall scented candle to keep the season in the air at all times. Choose from any of these Bath and Body Works fall scents:

  • Pumpkin Pie
  • Sweater Weather
  • Leaves
  • Autumn
  • Apple Picking
  • Brown Sugar Allspice
  • Radiant Red Maple
