Easy Kitchen Cleaning in 5 Steps

Spring is in the air! With the kitchen being the most used room in your home, it’s a great place to start your spring-cleaning. While the thought of deep cleaning an entire room sounds like a daunting task, it can easily be accomplished if you follow our tips below!

1. Split The Kitchen Into Zones

By breaking up your kitchen into zones, it will make the cleaning process a lot simpler for you. It allows you to focus on each zone one at a time without driving yourself crazy. Here’s an example of how you can break up your kitchen:

  • Drawers
  • Cabinets/Pantries
  • Oven/Microwave
  • Refrigerator/Freezer
  • Dishwasher/Sink

2. Clear All Kitchen Surfaces

Before executing your cleaning plan, be sure to clear off anything lying around in your kitchen. This means any dishes in the sink, any small appliances on the counter and even little knick-knacks on the table such as a napkin holder or salt/pepper shakers. After everything has been cleared, you can then proceed to wipe down those empty surfaces. You can use any all-purpose cleaner for this.

3. Start Working on Each Zone

·  Drawers

Start by removing all the items from the drawers. Wipe down the inside with your cleaning product – making sure to get all of the dust that has built up over time. If you have drawer organizers, it’s a good idea to give those a wipe down as well. Place all of your items back into their respective spots neatly. Don’t forget to clean the knobs too!

·  Cabinets/Pantries

This step might take a little longer if you are planning to go through old items in your cabinets/pantries. If that’s the case, take everything out and get rid of old or expired goods. From there, wipe down the inside of your cabinets and shelves. Place items back in a neat and organized manner. Just like with your drawers, finish cleaning this zone by wiping down fronts and knobs.

·  Oven/Microwave

You want to make sure to thoroughly clean the inside and outside of your oven door since it accumulates grit and grime over time. To clean the inside of your oven, put it on its self-cleaning cycle. While it’s going through the cleaning process, remove all knobs from the stove and grates above the burners so you can wipe down the cooktop. Once everything is wiped down, replace everything as it was. Thoroughly wipe down the inside of your microwave and the microwave plate as well.

·  Refrigerator/Freezer

When cleaning your refrigerator, start by throwing away old or inedible food. Then wipe down shelves and wash the ice cube tray. Don’t forget to wash out the drawers as well! Once this is completed, place your food back neatly. Then move on to the outside of the appliance and wipe it down.

·  Dishwasher/Sink

When tackling your sink, be sure to scrub the sink down and clean out the drain and garbage disposal (if you have one). Get rid of old sponges and dish brushes, and replace them with new ones. Wipe down the dishwasher as best as you can and run it empty on a high-heat sanitizing cycle.

4. Dust All Corners and Mop The Floor

Get rid of those cobwebs that have formed in the ceiling corners and on the light fixtures by dusting thoroughly in your kitchen, and then start mopping your floor to get rid of that remaining residue! It’s well overdue.

5. Clean Any Remaining Items/Surfaces

For the final step of this process, take a look around your kitchen and make sure to clean anything you missed, such as small appliances (Keurig or toaster oven), chairs, windowsills, doorknobs, trash bins, and the utensil jar.
